María Marín, guitarist, singer and composer, is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary flamenco. The Seville-born artist stands out for combining mastery of both guitar and singing from a deeply personal perspective. With Las Tres Marías, she updates flamenco tradition by incorporating classical and contemporary influences, creating a unique artistic universe where roots, innovation and avant-garde coexist.
Imagine walking into a small room, with the chairs a little too close together, and someone begins to play the guitar slowly. MARÍA MARÍN starts to sing and, suddenly, everything feels a little older. You hear a voice that reminds you of a house you have never actually lived in, and a door that has been closed for years quietly opens.
Far from offering a modern update of tradition — we can retire that idea by now — she has a deeply personal way of bringing it closer to us. She lets the songs move forward, breathe, and say whatever they need to say. On her latest album, Las tres Marías (Plan B Records, 2026), this approach is unmistakable: voice and guitar, with very little embellishment. Songwriting traditions, Lorca, Tom Waits, and a whistled “Ave María” in tribute to her father all make an appearance. But the most important thing is not the list of references; it is the way she allows them to coexist. She does not display them like objects in a glass case, but lets them pass through her voice and her hands.
