ENMATU
EnMatu has emerged as one of the most vibrant new voices in the Catalan urban music scene blending pop, folk and electronic music. In January of this year, he released his latest work, jove talismà, under the Montebello record label. The album moves between sadness and sensuality, exploring a rich and evolving sonic landscape. With this project, enMatu steps away from his more commercial side and embraces a darker, more introspective and visceral approach, drawing on influences from trap, jerk, R&B, and funk.
A friend showed it to me one summer night and there was no turning back. Although he/she sings in the present, there is an impermeable nostalgia in their lyrics and in their songs, perhaps because of the emotions in the subtext, or because of their energy, sometimes tender and sometimes irreverent. A Sant Joan night at the beach, turtles in the garden, the R1 train line, the neighborhood hairdresser. Maybe that’s why it catches you from an unexpected place, and you end up frozen in a rhythm, in a word or in a beat.
They are one of those artists who know how to find the perfect balance between mainstream culture and an interesting and bold proposal. One of those artists who create a scene. One of those artists who will always surprise you with their new work, because they have their feet on the ground, but their head reaches as far as they want. And moreover, they are very well accompanied.
