I was an over-the-top fan of NACHO VEGAS. I analysed his work as if it were the gospel. It was during my university years, and the first albums by that rather dark guy from Gijón, full of windswept landscapes and frozen seas, awakened something deep in me. I was struck by his river-like songs, the expressiveness of his language and the coexistence of tones —from the raw intensity of a dramatic young man to self-aware irony… Years later, we met and, by then in my role as the singer of Manel, I hid my fascination. I told him I had listened to him a bit and so on… But I can still recognise his shadow, hidden beneath layers of embarrassment, in the first songs I wrote. Over time, of course, he has become one of the most relevant and influential singer-songwriters in Spanish (and Asturian) of this century.
