WHITEMARY
Whitemary is the project of Biancamaria Scoccia, an Italian singer-songwriter and producer based in Rome. Her music blends Italian songwriting, electronic music, analogue synthesizers and sampling with a direct, magnetic personality. After the EP Alter Boy and her debut album Radio Whitemary (2022), her latest record, New Bianchini (2024), confirms her as one of the most exciting voices in Italy’s contemporary electronic scene. A project where melody, club culture and experimentation come together naturally.
Bianca Scoccia is from Abruzzo and wants to conquer the world: Italy already loves her. Trained in jazz and influenced by Italian tradition, WHITEMARY first made herself known in a Milan dive. Radio WhiteMary (42 Records, 2022), her first album, reflects a strong and vulnerable personality, and a festive one too. Her lyrics are like the finest jazz standards, but evolved into the form of precise electronic music. “I feel light when I don’t think too much,” she says, and the minimal techno envelops us just like her voice. She moved from jazz to electronic music in order to find herself, and she writes with the synthesizers wide open. Music and lyrics are one, and sound becomes a collective ritual, halfway between pagan trance and intimate pop. Her second album, New Bianchini (42 Records, 2024), is also hypnotic and conveys an unusual melancholy for electronic music, but it makes sense: we are never as isolated as when we are inside a nightclub full of people. WHITEMARY’s confessions are everyone’s: that we are all alone in the room but that, if we don’t overthink it too much, we are not doing so badly.
