SEREIAS
Sereias is one of the most unpredictable and abrasive acts on the Portuguese independent scene. From Porto, the group build a universe between jazz-punk, post punk, krautrock and spoken word, with a constant tension between physical drive and political discourse. António Pedro Ribeiro’s lyrics collide with insistent basslines, dissonant guitars, horns, synthesizers and minimal rhythms to create dirty, hypnotic and urgent music. A project that turns the concert into ritual, shock and catharsis.
Unafraid of being incendiary and of pushing their sound to its rawest and most uncomfortable extreme, SEREIAS, the collective led by António Pedro Riberio —who could easily be one of Bolaño’s enigmatic characters— blend post-punk, free jazz, krautrock, noise and spoken poetry. Their music sounds like a slap of critique and reality: fury in “O país a arder”, suffocation in “Dinheiro” and existential unease in “A Floresta”, with the listener always submerged in an experience as visceral as it is hypnotic. They say: “the world is ours, not the bosses’”, and perhaps we have no choice but to believe them.
